Notice, it is a house of prayer, not a prayer room, not a place of prayer. A house is a place where we live and are comfortable. We typically live in our house almost everyday. Um, everyday is about how often we should pray.

Sometimes prayers are just feelings with no words or it’s hard to figure out what the words need to be. So the Spirit helps us to pray because we are weak and do not know what to pray. So let the Spirit help us pray.
The next verse tells us that His prayer is according to the will of God. Romans 8:27 He who searches the hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Then verse 29 tells us what is the will of God, that is that we would be confirmed to the image of Christ. Romans 8:29 For whom He foreknew, He predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He would be the firstborn among many brethren.

Just before the day gets going, the crazy things start coming, worry, threats, coffee not ready, stresses come, the emails come, a software update, a software bug, the twitters come, furnace stops working, Facebook is calling and then the other billion things that fill a day. Take time in the morning before other crazy things to connect, relate and talk to God the source of our life and our strength. He is the one to enlarge us, prepare us and strengthen us through the whole day.

John Calvin talks about “restraining excessive anxiety”. Of course, excessive anxiety can arise in many areas of life such as money, time, relationships, work or societal issues.
John Calvin says: But rather seek first the kingdom of God. This is another argument for restraining excessive anxiety about food. It argues a gross and indolent neglect of the soul, and of the heavenly life. Christ reminds us that there is the greatest inconsistency in men, who are born to a better life, being wholly employed about earthly objects. He who assigns the first rank to the kingdom of God, will not carry beyond moderation his anxiety about life. Nothing is better adapted to restrain the wantonness of the flesh from breaking out in the course of the present life, than meditation on the life of the heavens. All other things shall be added. Prayer starts with thanksgiving, thanking God for all He has done. Sometimes this is hard to do, but thanksgiving helps our prayer. But this verse starts by telling us to be careful for nothing, that is, don’t worry about anything, just pray. Then it says to just let God know what’s going on, just talk to God. Then after all these items, there is the peace of God that goes beyond what we think and feel. This peace guards our hearts by filling us with the peace of God.
Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful about nothing; but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses every understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts by Christ Jesus.
