Papua New Guinea – Garagassi Point

Garagassi Point in Papua New Guinea, a famous site where “first contact” (1870) was made by Miklukho Maklai and his shack-residence of three years. Look about 40 kilometers down the coast here, and you would find Buff village, where Brian, Helen and David, first lived on the Rai Coast with the Saep people. I never tire of the views of this place as Brian fly on business from Ukarumpa in the Highlands, to Madang Town on the coast using a small Cessna 206 airplane. South and East of Madang, Astrolab Bay, Rai Coast. November, 2010.

Brian Chapaitis writes: On a business trip traveling from Port Moresby the capitol city, to the Aiyura Valley where we live, our small Kodiak aircraft winging to the north. One never ceases to marvel at the beautiful terrain of the countryside. Here we see the classical shapes produced by endless water erosion, creating the rounded ridge-lines, so common in Papua New Guinea. We receive much rainfall throughout the year.
