Prayer or Bible Study

Which is more important, your left foot or your right foot. There may be some debate on this, but I personally prefer BOTH. So with my time, is it prayer or Bible Study or teaching or preaching or writing or coordinating? And the winner is, we need all of them. Just like my body as Paul talked about in First Corithians, we need all the members and we need all the functions in the body of Christ.

Anxiety Kills Vision

As soon as we get anxious, we loose our vision of Jesus and began to sink into despair.

Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you

Matthew 14:27-32 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. 28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. 29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. 31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? 32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

Peter looked at Jesus and walked on the water, then looked down at the troubled water and sank. As soon as Peter got anxious about the water he was walking on, he lost his vision of Jesus and began to sink.

Proverbs 12:25 Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression,
But a good word makes it glad.

Philippians 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

The morning time is the best opportunity to connect and relate with God in the Bible and prayer – super encouraging Bible verses

Just before the day gets going, the crazy things start coming,  worry, threats, coffee not ready, stresses come, the emails come, a software update, a software bug, the twitters come, furnace stops working,  Facebook is calling  and then the other billion things that fill a day.  Take time in the morning before other crazy things to connect, relate and talk to God the source of our life and our strength. He is the one to enlarge us, prepare us and strengthen us through the whole day.

Consider these wonderful super encouraging Bible verses on prayer in the morning.

Revelation 2:28 and I will give him the morning star. (Once the sun comes up or we answer two emails, the star cannot be seen)

Psalms 30:5 For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.

Mark 1:35  Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed. Jesus really liked the morning time for prayer and Bible reading. Notice Jesus got up before the sleepy sun got up.

Never Give Up

Never give up in praying to God. Never give up in reading the Bible.

He is always there to listen and answer.   The best Bible verse is Luke 18:1  And he spoke also a parable to them to the purpose that they should always pray and not faint,  So the Lord does not want us to give up, even when it seems impossible or have asked and asked and it seems like nothing has happened.  God is always there and hears, He just has His timing for answers.

Some of us who are very active (like me) find it sometimes even hard to just read the Bible. We always have another idea to develop for some project or initiative, and our minds just will not stop to listed to God’s word. But still its best to try as we can to devote time in the morning to God in prayer.

God loves morning prayer time. What a great time to pray and think about God, the source of our life. The Morning sets the direction for the day.

God is Spirit

24 God is Spirit: and they that worship him must worship in spirit and truth. Notice there are two words “spirit” and “Spirit” in this passage. The Spirit (upper case) refers to the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit. The spirit (lower case) refers to our human spirit. God gave us a spirit, soul and body. So we could use our spirit to worship and contact God who is Spirit.

Prayer, Vine and Branches

Prayer, Vine and Branches – Jesus’ Instructions on Prayer in John 15

Look at vines, branches and prayer in in John 15, chapters 14, 15, 16, and 17.  In those four chapters, Jesus was trying to comfort His disciples.  Right in the middle of that, in chapter 15, Jesus was talking about abiding. He was talking about how we need to be like branches on a vine. He was the true vine. Some people say this describes kind of an organic, living and real relationship between Jesus and us, or between us and the Father.  Without getting into the rest of the context, there, John 15:7 says, “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” That seems kind of like a blank check where you can expect God to do anything you ask of Him. Some people look at that verse and they wonder why God doesn’t answer when they pray for something. There is a condition in this verse, though. It says, “If you abide in Me and My words aide in you”.  The “asking”is prayer.

The first condition, there, is, “If you abide in Me… “ Without getting into the context, there, one way to abide is to stay in the Lord, to rest in the Lord, or to remain in the Lord.  I would even say it means to do the things God wants you to do, to obey the Lord.  He says, “If you abide in Me”.  Then He says, “And if My words abide in you”.  This passage in the book of John says, “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you”, you can ask whatever you will and I will do it. What words is He talking about when Jesus says, “And My words abide in you”? I believe He is specifically talking about the word He is speaking. I believe it also has to include the words of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.

Morning Prayer Sets the Direction for the Day

Morning Prayer Sets the Direction for the Day.

Boat on Sea of Galilee, Israel

Boat on the Sea of Galilee, Israel

A great Bible verse is Mark 1:35, “and  rising in the morning long before day, he went out and went away into a desert place, and there prayed“.  The Lord Jesus spent time in the  morning in prayer to get himself in alignment with God, the Father. Jesus also prayed that the whole day would be in the Father’s will, purpose and direction. His morning time set the direction for the whole day.

From the context of this passage we can discern that Jesus probably prayed in the region of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel. The above picture was taken from another boat on Sea of Galilee.

How do we know Jesus prayed this way? Jesus taught His disciples to pray, “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven”. This is a portion from the familiar Lord’s Prayer.
